The London Ice Cream Company Advertisement
|
The London Ice Cream Company has been running since 1995 when Alan Sargant began the business of making quality ice cream. The company has only grown to be more successful since, and now sells their product all over the country. Because of this, many opportunities arise for advertising their product.
I was given the chance to create an ad concept for the company. My inspiration for such advertisement stemmed from the art deco and pop art era. I wanted to combine elements from each era into one advertisement that would both be eye catching, and represent the history of the company. After taking a trip down to the London Ice Cream Company, it was clear to see that their history is very important to them and it is what made them who they are today. I took this into consideration when creating my design. A challenge that I faced was trying to find a way to incorporate the history of the company, whilst also having it be appealing to today's modern society. After researching art deco, pop art, and the history of the company, I was able to come up with a design that was everything I wanted it to be and more. |
Lexus Wearable Art Fashion Show
On April 12th, the Lexus dealership in London Ontario is having a wearable art fashion show. Since I am currently a student in the Design Foundations program at Fanshawe College, I am lucky enough to have been given a chance to design a piece of wearable art for this fashion show.
The task at hand for the wearable art fashion show was to create a garment that can be worn by a model which includes car parts and other reusable materials such as scraps of paper, fabric etc. This project greatly focuses on using only things that are on hand to reduce, reuse and recycle. The garment also had to greatly reflect the Lexus brand, and show the theme of the fashion show which was motion.
It was a challenge to figure out how I would use car parts to create something that could be both worn, and be fashionable. I thought about all of the things that had to be incorporated in the garment then researched the Lexus brand and was able to come up with my design concept.
When I think about cars and motion, one of the first things that pops into my mind is the way the windshield wipers move on the windshield. This is where much of my inspiration stemmed from. I then thought of the shape that the wipers leave behind when they glide across the windshield and this reminded me of wings which is what then led me to my overall design concept.
The wings were constructed from cardboard boxes and wire was used to support the shape. The feathers that were then glued on to such cardboard were cut out of scrap paper such as flyers, newspapers, magazines etc. Most of the feathers however were made out of old Lexus car brochures that advertise the company so this is a great feature to the wings! Since Lexus is a luxurious brand, glitter was then added atop the feathers for added fizaz. For the straps that hold the garment on the model, they were made out of an old pair of jeans that were then painted black. Velcro was then added in the correct places to assure that everything would stay in place.
Since my inspiration stemmed from the car windshield wipers, I knew that was the car part I wanted to have included in my design. Thus, they were glued along the top curve of the wings. I knew that the wings simply would not be enough for my design, so I added a train flowing down from the bottom of the wings or an added luxurious effect. This was made from a mesh material, and an old silk Lexus banner.
More photos to come.

Master Bedroom Design Concept
Whilst in the Design Foundations program at Fanshawe college, I had an assignment where I was to create a design that involved aspects of nature in some way. The challenge here was that the floor was very open for what I wanted to design.
I chose that I wanted to create a master bedroom design concept that had aspects of nature scattered throughout. My intentions were to create a space that would be an escape for the owner, a place where they can come to and always feel connected to nature even if the weather outside may not be desirable.
To achieve this, I designed one wall to be covered in wood. I then added in other aspects of nature such as plants, floral details etc. I also used earthy colours in the design as well. Overall, I believe that I was able to come up with a beautiful master bedroom design concept that helps to bring aspects of nature indoors.
